Tom Nakashima moved to Floyd in 2015 where he and his wife are currently building a home and studio. Some of his previous accomplishments include Emeritus Professor at The Catholic U. of America and Morris Eminent Scholar Emeritus at Georgia Regents University. His work is in the collections of over 50 museums including The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum and The Mint Museum. His numerous awards include: The Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship, Awards in The Visual Arts 11, The Mayor's Award for Excellence in an Artistic Discipline (Washington, DC). Art Forum, Art in America, Art News, The New Art Examiner, Works & Conversations and Art Papers have written about or reviewed his work. Nakashima’s work has varied over his 45 years of exhibiting, ranging from abstract through representational.
His paintings and prints are consistently expressionistic monolithic images that address social and environmental issues. He is building a home and studio in Floyd.
