Hothouse posey

hothouse posey is bold, color-rich, mixed-material jewelry by North Carolina artist, ndidi kowalczyk {in-did-ēē  kō-wall-sic}. Specializing in vitreous enamel, she uses mostly re/upcycled copper as a canvas to create original works of art for the body. Each canvas is sawed by hand and enameled then paired with stones, fibers, or re-purposed leather. The findings and chains are patina’d sterling silver.

Collections

Garden Party is fabricated from fine gauge upcycled copper. Each enameled canvas is hand sawn and manipulated by hand to give them dimension.  Each is enameled in a kiln on both front and back. The floral embellishment is made from seed beads fired into the canvas components.

The ear wires are artist fabricated from sterling silver and then patina’d.

my.moderne.art is a torch-fired collection of hand painted canvases. Each canvas is hand sawn, formed and enameled {on both sides}. The drawings are generally started as a graphite pencil drawing. Since graphite will not adhere to a glossy surface, the canvas is given a tooth by applying glass etchant to the exterior. The drawings are always stream-of-consciousness markings. Once the drawing is set, a watercolor paint that can withstand temperatures in excess of 1350oF is applied to the canvas. The watercolor paint has no glass so a final layer of transparent enamel is applied to retain the color and torched on last time.
